It is important to keep batteries out of our waste bins at home as they can cause fires and explosions, harm waste workers and damage equipment.

Instead, it is important we make sure that they are recycled as batteries contain valuable materials.

What type of batteries can I recycle?

  1. All household batteries e.g., AA, AAA, and button batteries from items like watches.
  2. Battery packs from laptops, mobile phones, and power tools.
  3. Car batteries can also be recycled (You can only recycle these at designated points, find them here.)

Many supermarkets, shops, libraries, and community centres have battery recycling collection points. You can also take them to your local household waste recycling centre.

Find the nearest place near you using the handy recycling locator from Recycle Now.

Top tip: Why not switch to rechargeable batteries. They can be used up to a thousand times more than disposable ones and can save you money in the long term.
