We are proud to support this challenge and hope to inspire more sustainable shopping habits when it comes to buying our clothes, without having to compromise on our style.
Choosing second hand is becoming more and more easier. This could be done by thrifting at your local charity shop, searching through vintage stores, or browsing online marketplaces such as Vinted, eBay, and Depop.
Why buy second hand?
Fashion has become a great way for us to express ourselves, our individuality, and our personal style. Unfortunately, it is one of the most polluting industries on the planet. Huge amounts of fresh water, energy, and resources are used when producing and transporting our clothes. This is all wasted when we throw our clothes away and is contributing to our climate crisis.
Buying second hand clothes recirculates items and gives them a longer life. This helps cut down the demand for new clothes and ultimately helps our planet.
Beyond the environmental benefits, shopping second hand means finding unique pieces, saving money, and building a wardrobe that’s truly your own.
Take part in Second Hand September
This month, we’re challenging our residents to share their favourite second-hand finds and commit to choosing preloved first.
You can also get involved in Oxfam’s campaign by taking their quiz and learning more about the impact of your wardrobe: Take the quiz here
Other ways you can support:
Donate your unwanted clothes to a charity shop
Organise a clothes swap with friends, family, or within your community
Sell any of your unwanted clothes online or at a car boot sale
Thank you for supporting this campaign. Remember that while this campaign is in September, choosing pre-loved can be done all year round!
