This month for our #ChooseDayisReuseDay campaign, we are going to focus on reusable coffee cups.

Whether you are a tea drinker or coffee drinker, you will at some point see the infamous disposable takeaway hot drinks cup. We Brits buy an average of four takeaway hot drinks a week, and as you can imagine, this can create a considerable amount of waste. Coffee cups aren’t easily recycled so why not switch to a reusable one? Here are our top reasons why you should today:

Reusable coffee cups can help the planet discover how at Waste Less South Yorkshire.

Discounts

Many coffee shops and cafes will give you some money off your hot drink if you bring in a reusable cup. This works in most big chains but also in some smaller independent cafes too. Just take your cup in and ask at the till if there is any discount.

Reduce plastic waste

7 million disposable cups are used every day in the UK- over a year that will produce enough to fill up the Royal Albert hall! Many of these cups contain plastic and are not easily recycled and cannot go in our recycling bins at home. 69% of people in the UK own a reusable cup- so why not use them?

Lots of choice

Not only can you choose what goes in them, hot drinks cups come in all different shapes, sizes and colours- so you can easily find one that suits your style and your budget. I have found that no matter what your cup looks like, or what brand it is, coffee shops are always happy to fill it up for you.

Keeps it warm

Many reusable cups are made from materials that have insulating properties meaning that it will keep your hot drink hotter for longer! Perfect for when you are commuting on a cold day or out for a walk in town.

Less spillages

The lids are often a lot sturdier on reusable cups and some have sliding lids meaning that you get to drink most of your drink- and stop some going on the floor!
