We are always on the lookout for ways to help the environment and reduce plastic waste. By reducing how much we use single-use plastic we’ll save time and money, as well as the environment. Swapping your plastics can be really easy from using a refillable drinks bottle to using a lunch box instead of clingfilm. There are some swaps for avid recyclers which are a little out of the ordinary. We have discovered some unusual plastic swaps that prove very effective for our environment and our bank accounts.

Here are some simple but effective unusual plastic swaps:

 

Swapping bottled shower gel for soap bars, not only are they cheaper but they last much longer.

 

When freezing food or making packed lunches, we all reach for the disposable plastic food bags, by swapping to reusable silicone food bags, we’ll save both money and the environment.

 

As tempting as it may be at parties or BBQs to use disposable plates and cutlery, it’s much better for our environment if we use hardware cutlery.

 

Now that we’ve got you thinking about reducing plastic waste, here are a few more unusual plastic swaps to try:

 

Carrying and using your own straw

 

Swapping your disposable make-up / face wipes for a flannel or washable wipes

 

Switching from disposable to real nappies

 

Dropping the shampoo bottles for bars of shampoo

 

Switching from sanitary pads to washable towels or menstrual cups.
