With food waste costing on average £1,000 for a household of four every year, Food Waste Action Week will highlight the small changes that could make a big difference for everyone - saving money, time and stress.
The theme of this years campaign is ‘Make your food go fuuuurther: for your pocket, for our planet.’
By preventing waste, using up our food, we can unlock more value from the food we already have by helping it stretch further.
Did you know?
• Every year, UK households throw away 4.4 millio,n tonnes of edible food - worth a staggering £17.5 billion. That's an average of £1,000 wasted per household of four every year.
• 60% of food waste happens in our homes - creating 16 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually. From bread and milk to fresh vegetables and leftovers, the food we buy with the best intentions often ends up in the bin. But it doesn't have to be this way.
At a time when the cost of living continues to squeeze family budgets and climate pressures intensify, reducing food waste is one of the fastest, simplest ways to save money and protect the planet.
