Water bottles
So many people have made the change to reusable water bottles already (including most people in our office!) They not only cut down on plastic but can save your money in the long term. They are also very handy when you are out and about because many places will refill them for free.
Shampoo bars
These are becoming more widely available and can now be picked up in supermarkets and on the high street. They are a great alternative to the traditional shampoo bottle, and take up less room in your bag when traveling.
Wrapping paper
Whatever the gift giving occasion is, consider using alternatives to wrapping paper as many are coated with plastic, contain glitter and other embellishments. Some Council’s may not accept wrapping paper in the recycling bins too.
Try alternatives such as reusable gift bags, boxes or fabrics instead or get a bit creative and use newspapers, magazines and parcel paper instead (all of these can be recycled at home!)
Shopping bag
Since the introduction of the plastic bag charge, the reusable shopping bag has increased in popularity! These are often sturdier than the disposable alternatives meaning they can carry a lot more shopping and last a lot longer- If used properly a reusable bag can replace over 600 single use carriers in its lifetime.
Toothbrush
Instead of a traditional plastic one, why not opt for a bamboo version? Bamboo is a natural material and can biodegrade after it has been used. These are becoming more available on the High Street and online, and cost the same as a regular plastic toothbrush.
